The concert opens in jubilant fashion with Handel’s ever-popular Arrival of the Queen of Sheba, a sparkling orchestral miniature full of colour and energy.
Bach’s uplifting celebratory ‘wedding’ cantata is followed by a performance of the jubilant Dixit Dominus by Marianna Martines, a singer, keyboard player, and the leading female composer of the period in Europe. Her radiant Dixit Dominus combines elegance, drama, and virtuosic choral writing.
The evening culminates in Alessandro Scarlatti’s magnificent St Cecilia Mass, a grand and expressive work honouring the patron saint of music, rich in lyrical beauty and Baroque grandeur. Scored for choir and string orchestra, it is full of Italian fervour and passion, with fast choruses and sparkling solo passages.
This is music of celebration and inspiration, performed with passion and vitality. Book your tickets now to experience a sensational evening of Baroque brilliance.
