About the event
Conductor - Andrew Shulman
Rachmaninoff - Vocalise In his own arrangement for orchestra
Stravinsky - Symphony in 3 Movements
Dvorak - Symphony No 9 New World
We begin with Rachmaninoff’s Vocalise, arranged for string orchestra during his years of exile. In this lyrical piece, Rachmaninoff’s nostalgia for his homeland finds expression through the lush, emotive sounds of the orchestra.
Following this is Stravinsky’s Symphony in Three Movements. Composed between 1942 and 1945, this symphony combines dynamic rhythms and vibrant orchestral tones, capturing the energetic essence of the era.
The concert concludes with Dvořák's Symphony No. 9, famously titled "From the New World." Composed during his time living overseas, this symphony blends characteristics of his new home with his Czech roots, celebrating new horizons while longing for the past.
